Foundation Series–The Science and Psychology of Dreaming

This four-CE Foundation Series course is comprised of two presentations delivered at the 2017 and 2018 IASD Conferences.

Part I by Robert Hoss: The first section of this course is a three-hour, three-part mini-tutorial on the science and psychology of dreaming, which covers:

  •    The Basics
  •    The Psychology
  •    Exceptional Dream Experiences

Part II by David Kahn: The second section, which was added after the 2018 IASD conference, is titled, “Sleep and Dream Science.” If you have already taken this course, you can complete the new section, and receive an extra CE.

The educational tutorial is designed for anyone interested in a summary of some of the theories and research findings related to our basic understanding of dreaming. Although there is still much unknown and even controversial about the nature of dreaming, these presentations are an attempt to present a snapshot of some of the general thinking cited from research and theoretical literature.

Training Opportunities

  • Personal Dreamwork Training by Robert Hoss:
    • Transformative Dreamwork protocol: personal training in the use of the protocol for personal work, dreamgroup leaders, or therapists.  
    • Dream to Freedom: an approach for for Energy Practitioners wishing to use dreamwork to enhance their EP practice or therapists desiring to add an EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) stress reduction approach to enhance dream work based therapy.

Course work is done face to face on-line using Zoom video technology and involves hands-on work with the student’s dreams. A certification that the training has been completed is provided.   • IASD Online Course Center. Here you can enroll in CE and non-CE courses on dream research, dreamwork methods, lucid dreaming, spirituality and dreams, nightmare treatment, and a variety of other dream-related topics as well as a  packaging of Foundational Courses. IASD courses are based on books, IASD’s annual conference presentations, past online conferences, and peer-reviewed journal papers.  All courses are open to the public. Most of our courses award CE credits. The International Association for the Study of Dreams is the provider of CE Credits and is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists.   • Haden Institute Dream Leadership Training: 2 Year Dreamwork Training program. The training open to all but particularly helpful for therapists and helping professionals who wish to enhance their therapeutic skills; parishioners, lay leaders, and clergy who wish to lead church dream groups; and others who wish to learn the benefits of group dream work in the journey to greater health and wholeness. The Institute for Dream Studies (IDS) provides educational and training opportunities in dreams, dreamwork and dream group leadership. The Institute for Dream Studies is approved by SCLLR (SC Dept. of Labor, Licensing and Regulation) to provide Continuing Education credits to counselors, marriage and family therapists and psycho-educational specialists.
